"To A'dam=lots of walking, lots of money/ To Noordwijk=lots of fun"
Review by a visitor from Chicago, USA who visited the city in July 2006 with a family group.

The best part:
The best part of my trip was actually when we went to Noordwijk, which is about 35 mins from A'dam centre. It was all the tolerance of A'dam without all the walking, spending money & crowds.

The worst part:
my big dissapointment was, I was expecting a 24hr city, and A'dam surprisingly is not, unless of course you are in the red light district. Also the price of Heineken, same as in the States, except at the supermarket.

The best attraction:
I really liked Artis Zoo

The worst attraction:
Ann Frank House - line around the block all day long

Stayed at the Hotel Paginini - 68 Stadhouderskade
Staff was friendly and accomodating, room very small but clean. But - if your looking to meet different people from different places - or want to "hang" at your hotel, this isn't the one in my opinion. I felt the other people staying were only there for the bed & breakfast - not mingling

Stayed at the Amstel Botel
Super location, near to Centraal Station and very short walk to main central area, attractions and shopping etc. Quite basic as a hotel itself. Rooms could be better, bit rough'n'rusty around the edges in some places, more cross-channel ferry than cruiseliner! Clean enough though, staff helpful and welcoming, nice bar and dining area, and free porn channel on the tv, hehe.

"Fantastic"
Review by Ryan from Toronto who visited the city in June 2006 as a couple without children.

The best part:
Walking through Amsterdam on a Saturday was great. There were so many people out enjoying the sun, the cafes, the markets, the Vondelpark. It was really beautiful. The first couple nights I was a alone and I stayed in a pub/hotel (The Crown) and the people there were so great, I quickly made friends, and felt very safe as a woman on my own.

we stayed 6 nights in this hotel;we had to leave at 7 am the last day so, when we arrived and before paying, we told the manager that we could not have breakfast on this day because of the timing( breakfast was from 8.30). he said there wouldn't be any problem but, of course, the person in charge of breakfast didn't want to prepare it before time and we coudn't have it (although we paid for it)

"Very enjoyable"
Review by Passey from Northampton, UK who visited the city in August 2005 with a group of friends.

The best part:
Simply walking around taking in the amazing views of beautiful houses, canals and boats. The canal tours were also enjoyable and insightful. Everything we did was enjoyable and a lot of this was due to the friendliness and helpfulness of all the people we came in contact with. All cafes and bars were nice, not to mention the 'over 18' cafes!

The worst part:
The only let down was the piles of rubbish dumped on some of the streets waiting to be collected - in parts this spoiled the view.

The best attraction:
The Anne Frank House

The best cafe:
The Free Adam and the Doors were good cafes/bars

The worst part:
1) The worst guided tour I've ever taken in my life. The guide knew less about Amsterdam than I did and we were one hour late in returning to the starting point. 2) One has to pay cash at the train station. Would be nice to know before standing in a long line.

"Great time had by all"
Review by Sean from London UK who visited the city in August 2005 as a single leisure traveller.

The best part:
Rancho's all you can eat ribs very tasty and exstreamly cheap at €14.95 Aprils bar is a unique experiance and should be tried, the friendly staff and customers along with the rotating bar. First time I have been for the Canal Parade which was good and a great atmosphere with everyone joining in on the fun.

The worst part:
Too many security checks at Schiphol Airport, why do you need to have your bags scanned twice and go through 3 seperate security checks? One good check should be enough, or failing that two, but to be sitting in the boarding gate area and asked to go back for another security check and have your bags scanned again seemed to be pointless beynond providing work.
