The Plantin-Moretus Museum honours the printers Christoffel Plantijn and Jan Moretus and is located in their former residence and printing establishment, Plantin Press, at the Friday Market.
The company was founded in the 16th century by Christoffel Plantijn and after his death it was owned by his son-in-law Jan Moretus. In 1876 Edward Moretus sold the company to the city of Antwerp.
The collection of the museum includes some typographical material, like the two oldest surviving printing presses in the world, the entire archives of the Plantin business and a library.
The museum was enscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage Site list in 2005.
Opening hours: Tuesdays - Sundays 10 am - 5 pm. (Open on Easter Monday and Whit Monday). Closed on Mondays (reading room open), and 1 and 2 January, 1 May and Ascension Day, 1 and 2 November, 25 and 26 December.
Admission fees: € 6: individual adults; € 4: groups minimun 15 persons, with a card 'BIG'; € 1: 26 year olds. Admission fees may vary in case of temporary exhibitions.
Free access: the last Wednesday of the month, less than 19 year olds, over 65 year olds, Antwerp citizens, hadicapted people and their companions, school groups, with a card ICOM - Sodipa - VMV - Lerarenkaart Klasse - Vrienden van museum - stadsgidsen - press.
Reading Room: Open every working day from 10 am to 4 pm, admission free of charge. Readers are requested to notify by e-mail, mentioning the titles they wish to consult so that these may be retrieved and ready in due course.
