The Centraal Museum was founded in 1838 and is the oldest municipal museum in the Netherlands. The collections of the museum include exhibits of art ranging from old masters to modern art and design, as well as fashion and local history and a particularly well-preserved ship - called the Utrecht Ship - that is believed to be more than a thousand years old.
Entrance is €8 for adults, €2 for children under 12 and €6 for older children and other concessions. Opening hours are from 11 am to 5 pm Tuesday to Sunday. The museum is closed on Mondays.
The museum is close to the Dick Bruna Huis and is the starting point for buses to the Rietveld Schroeder House where guided tours are available.
